Education is a topic that concerns everybody: the student, the teacher, the parents. Learning is as old as humankind itself, and yet remains one of the most debated topics in media and everyday life.
This blog is authored by me, Ewald Schenkermayr. I’m a young teacher starting his career. I love travelling and getting to know new cultures and people. I’m also into IT, discussing world affairs and literature, art, music… mostly anything that comes my way.
I believe in life long learning, and though I am a teacher, I keep on being a student to others, and there are always new things to discover. So in both ways, I still go to school.
For the beginning of my career I’ve decided to go to another country, la Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Reasons are:
1. making a statement: I’m a teacher, my main purpose is not money
2. experiencing how school works in other cultures
I figured by now: however alien the culture might be, it’s actually you who is the alien.
3. analyse what factors create motivation for learning in the local culture
4. Broaden my mind, and learn French 🙂
I would like to give an impression as accurate as possible. but please feel free to ask any questions that come to mind, about the culture, the people, etiquette, schooling, politics or economy… I will do my best to find out from locals and official media. Already now I believe that Africa has so much to offer, but they need access to know-how and the confidence to develop. Education is a means to raise up a country sustainably.
I’m always happy about comments and discussion!
